The Things They Say

When you are raising your kids in another culture, where they don't speak their mother tongue most of the time, you get some funny sayings. 

For instance:

They say "open" instead of turn on.  Like, "can you open the light?"  or "open the TV." 

They don't sharpen their pencils.  They open them.

The girls don't "do" their hair, they make their hair.  "Mom, look at my hair.  I made it all by myself!"

They drink soup and [say] drink cigarettes.


I know in due time they will learn how we Americans say things, but for now, I let it slide.
